It was a Saturday night and we were driving toward Racine looking for a place to eat.

While driving we recalled an old favorite Chinese restaurant, so we decided to head in that direction. Upon our arrival to the plaza at 6214 Washington Ave., we were surprised to see that this old restaurant was no longer there. Instead we found ourselves in the parking lot of Mike & Angelo’s, which must have replaced our previous dining spot. Somewhat apprehensive about trying a new place, we decided to venture in.

We were greeted promptly and met with smiling faces. It was quite busy, but despite this we were seated quickly. During the short wait we were able to take in some of the atmosphere of the restaurant.

From the festive mural in the entryway, the warm family environment, and the decorative lighting throughout, it had a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Once seated, we decided on the chicken parmesan and chicken picatta. The service was quite prompt. Fresh salads with hot garlic and Italian bread were served.

This was followed by an appetizer of battered eggplant strips with a side of warm marinara sauce, which were both light and yet satisfying. Shortly after finishing our salads and appetizer, our main courses arrived. My chicken parmesan was delicious! The chicken was breaded with a light batter that complimented the entire entrée. I could tell the breading was homemade because it was so unique in taste and texture, and the pasta was cooked to perfection — al dente.

The chicken picatta was equally impressive, with a light lemon cream sauce and capers that really brought out the flavors of the chicken.

At the end of our meal the chef came out to ask us how our meals were. We told him that it was our first time there and we were very impressed. So I must say that with the prompt service, great food, warm atmosphere and reasonable prices to boot, we will certainly be back!
