A family-run diner on Racine’s north side

By Kenneth A. Stanke

The Douglas Ave. Diner diner has a 1950s motif. Tom the owner and Fran his wife are there every day. Their children are helping out if they are not in school. Tom makes the soups and cooks the specials and seems to be everywhere at once.

The staff is very friendly yet professional. I have talked to people who come from Illinois for Sunday breakfast. I guess that’s nothing new.

The good thing about Tom is if you tell him that you really like something he will make sure that he has it on the menu.

Deciding whether to go out to eat is pretty easy. I have to confess that I have eaten at the diner twice in one day more than once. I tell my friends that I call the diner my refrigerator. It is just good food moderately priced.

It’s a family-run diner with fresh food specials that change daily. You will get treated like family.
